This week has be very interesting, full moon and Halloween!
This week we made our own fruit loop counting necklaces to help count by 2, 5 and 10.
I challenged those students who could count easily by each, to try and country 5 starting at 4. Or counting by 10's starting at 4. They were also able to use a number line to help them. It was interesting some of the things they came up with.
We have been looking at equality of equations too. For example: 7+5=6+6, True or false.
We have looked at some shapes, 3D, 2D all in looking at our pumpkin.
Students are starting to look at giving and receiving critics from fellow classmates. They all made 3 drafts of their jack o lantern pumpkin. After each draft, a fellow student had to give 2 stars (things they liked). And one wish (fm something they thought should be changed). After all that, their masterpiece was hung up on the board for a vote to which they liked the best. The winner's design was the jack o lantern pattern for the class pumpkin.
We have been doing a lot of voting in the class with all the talk about elections happening.
Our awesome sunny pumpkin patch trip. The kids had a great time! Those pictures are on a separate blog entry. It was a great day!
Halloween day was fun! Our k-2 parade around the gym. Then a full gym dance. We went back to our classroom and ate the goodies and had some sort of healthy snack I between the goodies.
We had a chance to do a little science and math before the rotations of classrooms and students. All students from the 1-2 classes English and French, were mixed up ad rotated between all of the teachers. There was making a pumpkin, drawing haunted houses, math game and story time. It was a nice relaxed afternoon.
