The first couple of days of the week after Halloween were interesting. I think the children were on a Halloween high.
By mid week, they were back to being the best class!
We have been doing a lot in math. We ended up counting all our pumpkin seeds from last week. The children did this in a big group were they had to decide how to do it. I took awhile and some guidance by they did it! They put the seeds in to groups of 10, then put put them into groups of 100. We ended up having 350 seeds in our pumpkin.
We also noticed that our seeds had started sprouting as I had left the moist seeds in a plastic bag over the weekend. The children were interested in planting them. They were inquiring on they would grow.
We planted some outside in the schoool gardens and then planted some in 5 jars in our classroom. We are watching them and Friday, 2 students notice that the sprouting, and continued further.
All this led to investigating how pumpkins grow. We talked about it, they did some research and watched a couple of videos to figure some of the answers to their questions.
Did you know that pumpkins come in other colours besides orange?! We found out that they come in 5 different colours!!!
Each student in our also created their own life cycle booklet.
In math, we also learned some new games. Tic Tac 15. It took a lot of practice for them to get into it. It's a tough game that requires a winner/loser, lots of strategy and practicing adding 3 numbers to 15. I will let your child explain the rest.
And they learned how to play go fish but the two cards that had to ''match' had to add up to 10.
We continue practicing counting 1-100 000 in French. Check out the video under resources.
We are also learning about graphs and making them.
Our class is settling in to doing the daily 5 for reading to self, writing, working with a teacher, word games and reading with a partner.
Our big buddies from Grade 5/6 cane by to help us out and make our wreaths for Remembrance Day assembly on Tuesday morning.
We had Liam's mom, Nathalie, come in and look at different designs which the students had to name and then try to draw. We will continue this art later next week. Merci Nathalie!
We will also create a new art piece mixed with science..... More to come.
Hope everyone has a safe and restful weekend!
